Sending a parcel to family or customers overseas is simple once you know the steps. Most delays happen because of small mistakes: an incomplete address, a vague description of the contents or a missing CNIC copy. This guide walks you through the process we follow every day at Velocity Move Logistics.
1. Check what you are sending
Before anything else, make sure every item is allowed. Each country has its own list of prohibited and restricted goods, and every carrier has additional rules. Medicines, liquids, perfumes, batteries, food and cosmetics often need special approval or cannot be sent at all. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the items before you pack.
2. Weigh and measure
International couriers charge by chargeable weight: the higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight. Volumetric weight for express courier is usually calculated as length × width × height in centimetres divided by 5000. A light but bulky box can therefore cost more than you expect, so choose a box that fits the contents snugly.
3. Pack properly
Use a strong, double-wall carton. Wrap fragile items separately, fill empty space so nothing moves, and seal every seam with wide tape. Remove old labels and barcodes from reused boxes so the parcel is not misrouted.
4. Prepare the documents
For non-document shipments you will normally need:
- A copy of the sender's CNIC (required for exports from Pakistan)
- A proforma or commercial invoice listing each item, its quantity and value
- A gift declaration if the contents are personal gifts
Our booking system prints these documents automatically from your booking details.
5. Get the address exactly right
Write the receiver's full name, complete street address, city, postal code, country and an active phone number with the country code. Couriers call or message the receiver before delivery and during customs clearance, so a wrong number can hold a shipment for days.
6. Book and track
Once the shipment is booked you receive an airway bill (AWB) number. Keep it safe: you can enter it on our tracking page to see every update, from pickup to delivery.
7. Understand duties and taxes
Most destinations charge import duty or tax above a certain value. Unless you book a duty-paid service, these charges are paid by the receiver. Declaring the correct value avoids penalties and delays.
